Why Lily Split?

Splitting a bill is often more of a hassle than it needs to be. Many apps have been designed to simplify the process, yet few have gained widespread adoption. I looked at the potential shortcomings of these existing apps and tried to address them when building Lily Split. Here are some of the ways Lily Split aims to be different.
1. It's a Web App, Not a Native App
As a consumer, I find it baffling that everything has to be an app these days. And receipt splitters do not escape this trend. Just take a look at the top results for this Google search:
The mobile web doesn't get nearly enough love, even though it's perfect for quick, infrequent use cases. That's why Lily Split is a web app – because that's all it needs to be.
2. No Login Required
We've all experienced the frustration of clicking on a site we think will solve our problem, only to be greeted by a modal asking us to sign up. For Lily Split, a login simply isn't necessary for the site to function.
3. Live Multiplayer Collaboration
Asking one person to go through a long Costco receipt and note every person's share for each line item is a tall order. With this in mind, I added live, Google Docs-style collaboration to Lily Split, allowing multiple people to contribute to the same receipt simultaneously.
4. Free Ninety-Nine
Lily Split is and will always be free to use. While running the website isn't free, it's cheaper than I anticipated. I haven't decided yet how I'll make Lily Split self-sustaining, but worst-case scenario, I could run ads. Hopefully, the occasional donation would be sufficient.
Conclusion
I really hope you try Lily Split and share it with your friends! It's designed to make scanning and splitting a receipt as easy as possible, without pesky barriers of entry. Thanks for reading!
